4 Victims Shot at Howe Community Park Sacramento – Unsanctioned Gathering Turns Violent
Saturday night, an unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Park in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento erupted in gunfire when between 20 and 25 shots filled the air as Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies were in the midst of clearing the area.
How It Unfolded
Just after 6:30 PM, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department got reports about individuals who may have been carrying concealed weapons at the park. A follow-up call advised of a reported fight and individuals fleeing the scene.
A sheriff's helicopter was utilized and scanned the park but did not locate any physical confrontation.
At the same time, a large crowd had collected at the park for what deputies referred to as an unsanctioned event. Deputies encircled the park, turned on their emergency lights, and spent approximately 15 minutes directing the crowd to leave via loudspeaker announcements.
While law enforcement cleared the gathering, upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the area — sending hundreds of people running in all directions.
The Injured
Four individuals — one Howe Park shooting Sacramento woman and three male victims, all in their 20s — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one victim had moderate injuries, and one was treated for minor injuries. All four were said to be in stable condition. The Crime Scene
The shooting was centered on the Cottage Way corridor side of the park alongside the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The Home Depot store was locked down for a period of time. Additional shell casings were discovered on Cottage Way, with projectile damage found in the metal fence near the Home Depot — pointing to a shooter firing south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot parking lot. Arrests and Detentions
Over law enforcement radio traffic, it more info was website revealed that a related suspect vehicle — described as a Kia vehicle — was contacted in the Solano County area with four individuals detained. Law enforcement units were sent to transport the suspects back and bring them back to Sacramento for questioning. Video confirmed two separate shooters.
